You could have a major leak somewhere around the inlet manifold. If spraying carb cleaner or cold-start around the joints speeds the engine up that is it. Or a vacuum leak through the brake servo/boo

Another silly but real place to look for problems is the gaskets. I have seen cases where manifolds have been trial-fitted without gaskets, perhaps for a picture or just a smile, then forgotten. All
