I've just nearly completed the same oddysey... You DID install the proper doughnut gaskets, right? These are tapered asbestos rings - go between the headpipe and manifold. With the gaskets in place,

Hi, Philip! The flanges of the manifold and downpipe do not fit together tightly. There is a doughnut gasket about 3/8" thick that fits between them. The metal-covered side of this doughnut is toward

Oops, I thought the metal covered side of the doughnut went toward the downpipe side. New exhaust going on later today. Can someone confirm which way around the doughnut gasket goes on? TIA Bill Mill
