The fan noise is a common one for heaters with warn bronze bushings. You can pull the motor and replace the bushings and brushes for a few bucks. Or try a motor rebuilder. For about 40 bucks you can

I had the same fan noise problem on my 80 mgb. I ( after trail and error ) lubed the bearings with a combo of axle grease and graphite powder about 4 years ago and haven't had a problem since. Steve

Hi Steve: Nothing is ever black and white is it??? Bronze bushings are considered "self lubricating". Which means the bushing should need no oil or very light duty oil to be completely operational. M
