Your're right about the front turn signal grounding being suspect to loosing its ground. The outside screw that goes into the speed nut that is clipped to the turn signal cutout, is the ground. Enoug

I replaced both bulb holders with two wire types, and just wired them to power and a good chassis ground. I did have to modify the turn signal assemblies to accept the new bulb holders. As I recall,
