If you used a different rotor on each distributor I would tend to agree with you, Pull the coil wire from the distributor and see if you can get spark, my next guess would be a problem with the coil

Nope, not if your getting 12V to both sides of the coil, have you tried another coil? I believe the external spade connectors are attached to the low tension winding and trigger a release of the high

Yup. This is a brand new coil, and it also didn't work with the old coil. The old one was the original one (c. 1978), and the new one is a non-Lucas part. Who knows?!?! As for the HT and LT wiring,
