I know we've been there before, but that fuel pump over the muffler really has me bothered. When I bought my Tiger 10 years ago, the DPO has placed some sort of insulation around the pump. I'm thinki

I think the heat shield is a good idea, but the insulation is a bad idea. The last thing you want is for a leak to soak a whole bunch of gas into the insulation, and _then_ have it set on fire by the

The else. Yep. I'll probably bend a piece of sheet metal. One thing I'd like to do is slant the metal such that any leaking gas would drip away from the muffler. Japanese snip Yikes, let's say I don'

Theo, et Listers, There is usually some confusion with regard to the terms "flash point" and "ignition temperature". The "flash point" refers to an equilibrium temperature of the liquid at which temp

The fuel pump over the right muffler has the following advantages: 1. When the points stick, the access door allows you to bang of the pump with an appropriate abject to free the points and the pumps

Dave, et Listers, I guess the choice is whether you want yellow flames trailing behind your car, or a massive explosion in your trunk. Personally, I'm glad I'm driving a Mk-I. Bob Robert L. Palmer De

D., Funny passage. Recently discovered that the so-called "electronic points" SU replacement pump is misrepresented. I understand that it has the same old points system as we've got, but they have re

A good rule of thumb on tantalum caps is 5x the working voltage. So, at least 60 V rating, and preferably more, since you're dumping all of the solenoid's current into it. I haven't looked into the p

Thanks for the 'ratings multiplier'. Do you have any Idea how BIG a 60V Tantalum is. As I recall, they are pretty small fro their capacity and rating (and expensive, relatively). Slowly at idle, afte

[] I just did a little check in the lab; a 2.2 uF, 50V tantalum is less than 1/4 in. on a side in the surface mount package. Since the size is proportional to the capacitance and the voltage, a 0.5
