Barry, I've tried the "drill a small hole, drain and repair" routine. It failed in the long run (a few months). I swapped a float from another sender unit to solve the problem. I am not aware of the

I would suggest using just _warm_ water with detergent in it. Don't boil it or you may have an exploded float in a hurry. While it is in the water, look around for the leak. It is probably a pinhole,

I too tried to repair my float. After drilling a small hole, I used a soldering iron to MELT the hole closed. After carefully positioning it with the former hole on the top, I reinstalled the sender
