I have a 74 TR-6 and have experienced the same odor in a closed garage for years. I do have leaks, but they appear to be of the oil seal variety. Pls. let me know what you find out. Best, Dave Stephe

This is just a guess, as I'm not sure what carbs you have- but is it possible that the float vents are open to the atmosphere? On my SUs the float vents are just poking out of the tops of the float

First place I check if I smell gas in the garage is under the carbs. Rub your finger under the float chamber and check for gas. Scott Suhring Elizabethtown, PA '70 TR6

Same model, same year, same smell. No noticable leaks. I assumed it was coming from the gas cap. Please someone, correct me if I am wrong. The gas cap is vented, unlike modern cars which are sealed t

If it's carbs... when you first open the garage... go straight to the car, and smell the front grill... and then pop the bonnet... and give a wiff to the odor escaping.... if it's coming from under t

I've had the same problem with my TR 4A... but it seems worse lately ... I tend to think the fuel tank has a slow leak or something... Even a vented cap shouldn't be that strong. If I find anything,

If you have SU's, it is quite normal, that after the engine is shut off, a little quantity of fuel gets up the jets. This evaporates and gives a gas smell. Gernot

The TR4 gas cap isn't vented. The tank is vented via a pipe attached to the top of the tank near the right-hand side. The attachment is via a banjo fitting that is prone to break loose due to vibrati

Modern vent caps have a check valve; air only gets into the tank via the vent, to let air out (as in filling up), the cap must be off. However I think it would be difficult to fill the gas tank witho
