You can't have too many grounds, IMhO. I don't have a 71 in front of me, so I can't say that it's different. Battery grounds to firewall... about an 8-10" cable is all. Engine grounds to body at the

And if you want to make extra sure, run a new ground strap from either motor mount to the steering rack bolt. This also helps keep the steering column grounded thus keeping you horn in proper working
