Just a thought, Thomas...rather than doing the 'baggie' thing, have you considered spraying with motorcycle chain lube?...you can fill the cable casing and 'blast away' the bad stuff. Just a thought

Whoever wrote that wavering needles can be caused by stiff odometer mechanisms was spot on in my case. My odometer recently went from 20999 to 21000 at the same time as the trip went from 199 to 200.
