Chris, if the backing plate can be removed would you see any difference on the impeller? I know that this has been a problem on some L-series waterpumps if the impeller is made from stamped sheetmeta

But what's behind the blocked off hole? Is the water passage still there? When I received the H20 engine the waterpump had both passages. Mike

Good. All that means is you change the backing plate. FWIW, I have several waterpumps and the backing plates are different and I use the best plate that matches up to the waterpump. Some are terrible
