I had several layers of cause for my car's sputtering. On the fuel side, it was the diaphragms. For the electrical, the coil went bad, it worked fine when it was cold but after the engine heated up,

Jon, If Kevin is right (could well be.....) a compression test will probably confirm it. If you have two adjacent cylinders low & the others high, you may well have a gasket blown, between cylinders.
