Hi guys, hope all is well with all. I've got a tuning problem and am hoping for some leads. As you may recall, last year we had to replace the head on our U20 after the cam snapped in half. The head

What are the valve clearances set to? Can you run a compression check on each cylinder? What happens when you pull each plug wire (one at a time)? -- John John F Sandhoff sandhoff@csus.edu Sacrament

You're trying to get the engine to idle at 600 rpms? Good luck. In all the years I have owned my car I have never been able to get it to idle at 600 rpms. I run my stroker at about 1000 and it likes

I've occasionally seen roadsters that would idle at 600 rpm, but not frequently. 700-800 is fine. My Solexed and mildly cammed 2000 idles at about 750, but that's a completely fresh engine. In this s

I certainly agree with Mike on this one. I've been driving and tuning my '70 2000 for over 30 years. I've actually had to idle at 700 but it's garbage. Loads up and stumbles badly when throttle is ap

Do these issues with bad running at low idle apply to the 1600's with stock cams, head, and SU carbs as well? Mike H. 67-1600 -- Original Message -- From: "Fred Schroeder" <roadster@schroeder-family.

Stock R16s will idle down nicely as long as the needles and nozzles are in good shape and the state of tune is alright. The metering needles wear at the base in the idle area. The idle gets richer an

Although I was able to get it to idle at 650 or so it was still fairly rough and would sometimes die out on hard stops so I just brought up the idle speed. At 650 rpms my alt wouldn't charge enough a

Not really, R-16's run like sewing machines, they are smoother at low idle, but still, why 600 when 800 - 1000 seems like a good idle. __________________________________

<At 650 rpms my alt wouldn't charge enough at night > Another valid point on the U20's. At 7000 rpm the alternator is turning close to 14000. By limiting the top speed of the alternator they won't ch

Mike SC Got that, plus my 1600 does not show oil pressure at 600-700. So I run it at 1000 at least to slow some pressure and make my mind (what I have left that is) at ease. Rich www.shepswoodncrafts
