I put in NGK BPR5 plugs in my 69C at the suggestion of someone on the list, because I'm still burning some oil. 2 weeks ago the #2,3,4,5 plugs had oil on them and I was using Autolite Platnum plugs.

To answer the question in the subject line - you shouldn't have to fit hotter/cooler plugs to a standard engine unless there are other problems, in which case the change of plug is only getting round
