On a hot day my TD's temperature gauge gets up to 212. All I know is that this is above the thermostat rating of 190. Is something wrong if the temperature gets above the thermostat rating? What temp

A couple of things that you may consider : 'Water Wetter' is just a trade name for the wetting agent that is present in (probably all) antifreeze products. Even in the unpressurized cooling system o

That the temp gets above the thermostat setting is not unusual, but for the temp to reach 100C often is not right. The purpose of the stat is to establish the minimum operating temp of the engine. I

Although I don't disagree with the blockage diagnosis, my question relates to thermostats themselves. I know that from other cars that I've owned that we've occasionally installed a "summer thermosta

Thanks for the label info. Although I am fortunate that neither our TD nor MGB-GT runs hot, this stuff must be a miracle for those who need it. BOb

The thermostat in my car is, miraculously, the original. It opens at 75C and is pretty good at holding that temp when air temp is in the 40-75 F range. When air temp is in the 30s and below, the rad

The MG always had options for hotter and cooler stats, but these were for 'hotter and cooler climates' (i.e. probably relative to the UK) rather than winter and summer. PaulH. http://freespace.virgin

Well, up here, winter and summer are distinctly different climates (130 degree difference max). Generally we'd run a higher stat during winter to get more heat out of the heater.

There are at least two thermostats available for the MGB - the 160 and 190 degree thermostats. I used to switch them for winter and summer use when my 71BGT was a daily driver with a 52 mile commute

Hi Tab, I think that Plymouth, Mass. will qualify for New England. I'm old enough to have done the winter/summer thermostat bit. The idea behind it was to get more heat in the winter. That, along wit

Ah, Plymouth Mass is practically in the Bahamas! :) Yes, it was to get more heat in winter (and not boil over in summer), and I do agree that with modern cooling systems we don't need to (I don't bot
