Just rebuilt the driver's side rear cylinder. Have the car up on blocks and thought it would be a good idea to change out the brake fluid. Have no idea what the best way to change out the old DOT to

In a word: don't. The amount of effort required to go from DOT to silicone is probably not worth the time or expense involved. From what I have read and heard on the subject you must flush ALL the o

1. Re the subject line: DOT5 is silicone. DOT3 and DOT4 are not silicone. DOT3 and DOT4 seem to get along together but they don't like DOT5. 2. Re: "From what I have read and heard on the subject you

First, don't consider Dot 5. It's silicon and must be used with a clean system (no old fluid at all, anywhere!). Even after flushing the system several times with alcohol, some of the old fluid will

In the "Tech" section of the SOL WWW pages, there is a brief piece I wrote on DOT5 v. DOT3/4 (silicon v. conventional) brake fluid. Check it out at http://www.team.net:80/sol/tech/dot5.html Cheers, M

Dear Scions of Lucas The word I get about changing over from DOT 4 to DOT 5 is that the brake system must be scrupulously clean before adding DOT 5 fluid. I just changed my system over and thats beca

I've been using DOT 5 as well. I totally rebuilt my brake system when I was reconsructing my TR4. My reasoning was to avoid the destructive properties of Lucas Girling fluid on my nice new paint job.

I've done some extensive reading on the use of DOT5 (silicone) brake fluid as I plan to use it in my Vitesse I'm doing a ground up on. If you ask 10 different people you'll get 10 different answers.
