A major problem with hydrogen is the it is extremely leaky stuff. I don't know if it will go through glass like helium but it requires special materials and techniques to minimize leaks. Fortunately

Mayf and List Like Bryan said, when it leaks it goes up. I worked at Dow Chemical for years where we made large quantities of hydrogen. With a little common senses it is no big deal to handle. Glenn

All things considered it goes up. I remeber a free hydrogen explosion at the Santa Susana Rocketdyne test facility where they vented the secopnd stage tank. I hovered near the ground and was ignited.
