My '72 B has a condition I can't figure out. When idling in neutral and the clutch pedal is depressed the idle rpms drop.......release the pedal and the rpms come back up......darned if I can figure

Hi Jerry, It's one of those things that we tend to take for granted and overlook. The action that's performed when you depress the clutch pedal is to cause the (carbon) clutch release bearing to drag

Hi Jerry!! The "B"'s clutch release bearing is a carbon ring that rubs against a circle of hardened steel. While this combo has excellent anti-wear properties, it does develop a lot more friction tha

Jerry, The drop in RPM is most likely caused by an increase in drag on the engine caused by the pressure of the release bearing on the pressure plate. Two possible causes 1. A worn and dragging relea

Most certainly agree with Rick. There's something wrong. Have never experienced a decrease in rpm associated with application of the clutch in my car (the MGB). Any funny noises when you depress the

I agree also, but would warn that if you don't hear a noise, it doesn't mean your throwout bearing _isn't_ worn out. I didn't hear any noise, but did experience the rpm-drop you talked about when the

Yeah, well, it's the natural consequence of that fabulous invention, the graphite throw-out bearing. The notion is that the bearing surface used to apply pressure to the clutch is a solid chunk of ca
