I think it's time to check all drive train for play: Check uni joints from gearbox to rear axle. If that's fine - proceed to the differential gear box. Hold the incoming connection from the gearbox

We have had a 71 GT for about 20 years as a regular driver. From time to time it develops clunks, boinks, rattles, mysterious gurgles, yips, and an assortment of other exclusively MG noises. However
