I am completely gutted, the spitfire has broken again. I had just fixed the non-working speedo and fitted new column stalks this morning and took her for a quick 5 minute spin round the block to chec

You could also have a blown head gasket between Cylinders 1 and 2, which are not under compression at the same time and could easily result in zero pressure if the two were linked. It's not all for n

It already has a brand new head gasket with roughly 10 miles on it! It was also a high quality permatex one with metal rings round each cylinder. I also made sure that I very methodically cleaned bot

When you installed the new head gasket, did you tighten it to the specified torque, run it up to operating temperature and immediately retorque it while hot? If you did not, it still may be a blown

No, I did not retorque the head when it was hot, I didn't realise I should do this. Here's hoping that the problem is only a blown head gasket... What am I looking for on the gasket that would indica

It will be fairly obvious when you pull the head. Streaks from one cylinder to another. Heated coolant and exhaust gasses will stain the materials. I wonder if Fel-Pro makes head gaskets for the Spit

I learned about retorqueing hot quite by accident. When I was rebuilding Huxley's 1500 following the broken piston incident (that's another story), I bought a NOS Stanpart headgasket. When I opened

I'd also check the valve adjustments on the rockers again just for kicks. I lost compression on one cylinder on my MK2 after a rebuild only to find out that I forgot to tighten the nut on one of the

John Sez: I think you definitely have your answer...if you only got 10 miles on the new head gasket, then it's very likely it didn't seat correctly and you've blown it. This is both quick and compari
