The most convenient 'always hot' wire (purple) for powering the radio presets is from the courtesy lamp right above the radio. Remember, there is also a wire (white/green, I think) from the ignition

I happen to have a radio that does have a rechargeable battery or some type of flash memory. The radio is removable and keeps all the presets (in theory), unfortunately it no longer keeps the presets

The unswitched power source needs to be one that does not get turned off when you turn off the key. I would imagine that the headlamps line would work, though you may consider other unswitched option
