I had the same problem when I installed the pierce manifold + Weber carb. Engine only ran when I floored it. The problem was I didn't ground the manifold enough. There was still air getting in there.

When I installed my nissan engine, I managed to break a wire to the mass airflow meter. One I figured out how to get the trouble codes out of the computer, the problem was easy to fix. So will it be

Jeff and Phillip, that would definetly be an electric tach. These tend to jump some at low RPMs, if it just happened once than i would probably ignore it. Quite possibly it is just a loose connection
