Recently I installed an external rocker assembly oil feed line on my 1972 TR6 engine, after which oil consumption increased considerably. Before the modification the engine used hardly any oil, now t

I've had the same experience with my '74 TR6. When I purchased this car it had the rocker oil kit already installed and the engine spat blue smoke terribly and consumed quite a bit of oil. The engine

My guess is that the valve guides are a little bit worn and this is causing the oil consumtion that you speak of. Aaron

The extra pressure is probably exacerbating an otherwise unnoticeable problem. However, there's always the possibility that new valve guides wouldn't stand up to the increased pressure, either, and s

I may be missing something here but I thought the pressure was along the rocker shaft and oil runs out the hole in the rocker arm and just drips down the valve onto the valve guide. I don't think the

I think the top end oilers are getting a bad rap. I've had one on my Spit for about 2 years now with no excessive oil consumption. I guess if you have bad valve guides, the extra oil provided by the

Considering that the six is a direct descendant of the humble 803cc Standard 8 engine, as are the Herald and Spitfire engines, it's likely that they all suffer this problem to some degree. --Andy * *

I've heard of this problem before. The person I talked to had removed the rocker feed unit after experiencing increased oil consumption. The TR6 engine has no valve guide stem seals so it wasn't des
