I'm not heating/air guru... but I'll offer an opinion. What you said was true about infrared... it heats objects not the air... but if you don't run it continuously they cool back off so you're not

Thanks to all the responses. It seems that gas heat is the preferred method, and also that the cost to heat a shop/garage is not as expensive as I would have thought - if I only run it occasionally,
