I've been off the list for awhile but need your help. Several years ago I purchased a LH overdrive transmission on ebay from a garage in England. I am now just getting around to putting it in the car

You will only hear one click and it may be faint. The fluid pressure is what forces the solenoid back to it's dinsegaged position when the OD is running, so when at rest it will go to it's holdinh p

I wonder how many of us lay under the car, scratching our heads for a while, thinking, "Now how do I get that little ball back up in there on the tip of that plunger?" (G) Ray, You're in the same boa

The solenoid makes very little noise in the LH overdrive. You may not hear it. John Esposito, Quantum Mechanics, tests the ODs on his bench by driving the input shaft with a 1/2" electric drill. Tho

While I didn't have to lay under the car wondering how to get the little ball back in, I did have to crawl around the garage floor and find it after I dropped it! If the OD doesn't work I guess I wou

Thank you, that would definitely be worth the trouble to do. I thought OD was good in 3rd and 4th but wasn't sure if I read that or just appeared in my head one day. Usually things disappear from my

Been there Charlie, last time I took a dab of wheel bearing grease and that was enough to hold the ball in place...I only thought of this after three or four attempts with no success. Chad

I thought about that but then I hit on the idea of a strong magnetic pick-up tool applied to the base of the plunger. The magnetic field running thru the plunger and ball was enough to hold the ball

Depends on the configuration of the lockout switch on the gearbox. Up to late 76 it was always on 3rd and 4th, after that on 4th only on North American spec cars. May have reverted to 3rd and 4th aga

Right so Paul. Just curious how the OD works: can't the OD circuit be interlocked with a relay, which is activated by the reverse light voltage? By this the OD will be switched off when the reverse g

Hoo boy, an admonition from the OD police. (BG) I never recommended doing it. I only recounted what I did - and got away with. I knew the risks and accepted them. In my present B, with OD, the lockou

Hi Hans, Yes, it could, but I have never known an interlock switch fail closed, so there is no real need to provide a *second* interlock circuit, which still needs the reverse light switch (same desi

Two points: 1) until 1967 or thereabouts there was no reverse lamp circuit; 2) the transmission switch for the reverse lamps is the exact same switch as the OD lockout -- check out the part numbers.
