Couple of questions, are you reading the oil pressure directly or through a sending unit? If you are reading through a sending unit than disconnect it and attach a direct reading guage. Maybe I miss

I would also guess if the gauge is correct that the allen plugs were left out of the oil passage under the timing cover. I have also seen the plug blow out of the oil pump. Doug

Boy, I don't like the sound of that , noisy lifters mean low or no oil press. Check the pick up tube for cracks, or a poor seal at the block, also I've seen a lifter come out of its bore , this will

Put a dependable mechanical gauge on the engine and try it. If it is still giving you low pressure as described, I would suspect a loose clearance somewhere. Regards-Chris
