What does it generally mean if my oil pressure gauge drops from an average reading of 40-50 lbs/0" to +-20 lbs/0" at normal idling speed. Also pressure climbs to 60 lbs/0" at higher reves? What is mo

Sounds like pretty good oil pressure to me. My Midget performs exactly the same, except it goes up to about 70 psi when cold. It was that way when I bought the car and still is after 40,000 of my mi

As oil gets hotter, it gets thinner, and so the pressure will drop to some extent when the engine is hot, even on a freshly rebuilt motor. It will also be 'lower' depending on the outside temperatur

Hi Tim, You are okay. That is very normal for the oil pressure to drop at idle. The little pump just can't keep up when idling so the pressure drops off. Your engine also doesn't require as much pres

Ummm...I wouldn't say not to worry about it! the issue is that the oil pressure reads 0 to +-20... 0 at normal idle. The oil pressure needs to be more than zero at idle. I would go through the syste

Seems like Tim wrote that he is getting 40-50 lbs/0" while running through the gears. At idle he is getting +-20 lbs/0". I _think_ that the ' /0" ' means 'per square inch" but I could be wrong. I.e.,

My Oil pressure reads zero at idle when it gets full of water and nasty greyish. Needless to say, I am starting plans on an engine hoist :P (I already went through a valve job, head check and 2 head

My understanding is that 10 lbs pressure per 1000 RPM is a good rule of thumb. I don't think he was saying his oil pressure went to zero, I think he means by the markings on the gauge [LB/0"] at the
