Dear list, I promised to post my findings on the head gasket experiment. A couple of weeks back I was bemoaning the fact that I had another blown head gasket on this engine. It was the second blown g

Whoa - you have one seriously planed head there. Last 1622 I built (using the larger chamber head, of course) was a similar compression but had BIG pop-ups on the pistons. The stock big bore flat-top

Thanks for the reply. I agree with everything you say. The rocker pedestals have been shimmed in an attempt to restore the proper angles. Could be, as you say, there's not enough mass left in the he

Uh oh - if you start with the 1800 head with the large sized combustion chamber, you are going to have low compression unless you shave the heck out of it - and wind right back where you started with

The MGA managed to blow a head gasket and I intend to replace it by doubling the head gasket in an attempt to reduce the compression ratio a wee bit. The unit is a +.060" 1600 block with flat-top pi

Could you reduce your CR by changing pistons? Have you actually calculated your CR? Measured your combustion chambers? I just tried running a copper gasket on my supercharged B, not even doubled up,

not even doubled up, and had miserable luck with it <<<snip>>> The secret to using a copper gasket is two fold 1) Anneal the copper so it is very soft. 2) Lap the head to the block. This can only be
