One supposes that, in a 40 year old master cylinder, there could be a weak spot. In all likelihood, though, it's one of the rubber seals/cups that has failed. Why they demonstrate inconsistent leaks

Why don't you have it resleeved with stainless steel or brass? That would certainly solve any leaking problem (assuming the rubber parts from a rebuild kit are sound). The master cylinder on my 59 MG

I've had the MC in and out so many times that it's no longer a temperature or temper-raising event. Most threads are so worn that the bolts and nuts finger-tighten almost to the end of the threads.

In the kit with the cylinder, did they include any little plastic fittings and some rubber tubing? If so, attach them to the one or two ports on the master cylinder that supply the brakes with fluid.
