I'm not structrual engineer, but from what it looks like, the battery boxes are no more than mere appendeges to the body. I've got a '78 in the shop now, and with that car there is of course only on

Rick is right, they serve no pupose except to hold the batteries. There was an article last year in "Enjoying MG" that showed how to move your battery into the engine compartment. The carriers were

If memory serves me, the battery boxes are not integral to the body. If you take a look underneath, you'll find that the both box assemblies are spot-welded to the underside of the rear cockpit shel
