I was just watching a show about auto safety, and they were showing the deadly design of the Ford Pinto. The gas tank/rear axle arrangement looks very similar to the MGB's. Am I right in saying that

Unsafe at any Speed is out of print, I think, but most libraries have a copy (my local has 2) I've read it, and I'll agree with you, it is more a dissertation touting Nader's preconcieved theories,

The problem with the Pinto was a bolt that punctured the tank on rear impact of sufficient force. Many cars have the tank behind the rear axle, without having the fire problem associated with Pintos

check out the photos of the rear end of my BGT after hitting a wall backwards at 55. The tank isn't even dented the rear of a B is much more substantial than a Pintos metal work --Original Message--

Wasn't one of the things Nader took issue with the jamming open of a throttle? Some things never change, there have been several similar cases with Ford Explorers in the UK recently. PaulH.
