- The wildly ticking fuel pump and the smell of fuel would indicate a pressure side leak. Also, due to the temperature, it might be vapor lock. Try pulling on the choke when trying to restart. Regards,

- Some of the symptoms indicate a possible flooding or too rich a fuel mixture. Next time the car is hot and won't start, you could do a few additional checks - remove the spark plugs and look for wetn
