- My building inspector has an MGB, he stopped by the job today holding a set of points that I installed maybe 2 months ago. The red plastic cam follower was melted away. Why? Yes I gave him a new set

- Because the plastic was not suitable for the purpose it was being put to. I'm sure I read something about a bad 'batch' of such points in circulation recently. I would return them and ask for a refun

- Yup, multiply the dwell angle by four, divide the result by 360 degrees and that's your chances of having the points closed while sitting there with the ignition on and the engine stopped.
