Hey all. I drove my 1500 Midget to work today on the highway (for the 1st time). It's top speed was around 50mph @ 4500RPM. Is this correct or is there something else the matter? Mike '78 MIdget '87

I drive my '78 1500 Midget to show in the midwest and my speed at 3500 RPM is about 60 MPH. Even though I don't take it above this too often, at 4500 RPM I'm over 70 MPH. If your driving at 4500 I h

I've had mine on the highway up to 65-70, with seemingly a bit more to spare. Was a bit scary, though. Didn't look at the tach, I'll check it next time I'm out. And of course I have no confidence tha

Check your speedo against a friend driving beside you. If your engine is worn and a bit out of tune it's somewhat reasonable to top out at 4500rpm in top gear, but that should be a lot more than 50mp

We have a 1975 Midget with a weber and improved exaust and intake manifolds , we cruise at 65 mph at 4000 rpm. Not sure what the top speed is, but 80 at 5000 is pretty easy to come by. As others on

That's definately not correct. I had the Midget out this a.m. and looked at what speed I was getting at what rpm: I hit 50mph @ 4000rpm in second gear, 70 @ 4000 in 3rd gear, and the fastest I've ha

Consider yourself lucky. My 67 Midget can barely hit 60 without redlining. At least I think it is sixty. I just kinda take an average of the low and high points the needle tends to bounce between. An

Just to mess up your numbers Harlan, Later 1500 Midgets had a 3.75 rear axle. (helped them meet the Fed's emission and MPG regs) The 4.22 rear axle ratio was used on the earliest Midgets (Mk 1's) wit
