The data plate on her Spitfire suggests 2 ATDC for dynamic timing. Are they serious? The B is more like 11 BTDC (note Before, not After). The only thing wrong with the way the car runs at 10 or so BT

John, If I remember my specs correctly, the 69 spit (high compression, twin carb, vacuum advance dizzy) should be timed dynamically at 13btdc. The 2 atdc setting would be for the single carburettor,

Thanks for the info... this is definitely an advance mechanism on this carb.. Now, how do I tell where 13 BTDC is? <g> I do have a cam degree wheel somewhere, I guess I could just mark the pulley 13

To set your timing accurately and EASILY you need to buy an advance timing light. If you have marks at TDC you can time virtually any car. All you do is adjust the knob on the timing light until your

On the 69s, you *need* to accurately determine TDC and mark the crank pulley, then make an accurate timing mark. None of the cranks or pulleys were keyed exactly alike, and they differ from other yea

Well, FWIW, I looked last night at the under-bonnet sticker of my 1969 Mk.3 Spitfire. If I read/remembered correctly -- it's pretty dark in that part of the barn ;-) -- static timing is 2 deg. BTDC a

Well, the Haynes manual agrees with 2 degrees static BTDC and 6 degrees dynamic BTDC. (you said static was BTDC and dynamic ATDC). This has the distinct advantage of both making sense and running OK.
