Dear all, Years of build and/or registration can be a tricky business. After all, a car despatched from The Factory on -say- 2 January 1979 can be qualified as a 1979 car, while it clearly was built

Gordon Pflug (of Sutton & Pflug) once told me that on new years day every car in inventory became a year newer! During the Plus 4 (series I?) years, California went by "First Registered" rather than

In this case I must disagree with you. As early as pre WW II Morgan did have model years. They were specified in the sales books and coincided with the appearance of a new catalogue. Changes could b

Gerry is right. In the US it was common practice to date the car by the date first registered. This allowed the Dealers to keep cars in their inventory for over a year and sell them as new. In 1989

Reality Check: If a car was made in 1957 and not sold until 1964 it doesn't make it a 1964 car. The car is still a '57 Morgan. Now, it might be registered as a vehicle of another year with all of tho

Reality reality check Gerry is right. When I bought my 4/4 from Sutton and Phlug, the California DMV registered it as a ''66 instead of a '65 because their cut off date for imported cars which were i

What if the DMV only registered Studebakers after an arbitrary cutoff date? Would you car now be a Studebaker? If Matilda was born on July 7, 1965 (ie, out the factory door) but not registered until

Another connection for Morgans and beer - "Born On" dating. Consider how a Morgan imitates Life: Each car has a conception date (build order), a born date (completion), adoption (purchase), dedicatio

You could very well be right about the temp. gauges. The build sheet on Scarlet does not say anything about additional gauges. Therefore either they were standard from the works or they were added a

We identify Morgans by type and model of type, not necessarily by year. I think you nailed it. With the reintroduction of the 4/4 series 2, H. F. S., due to the vagaries of the British auto and poli

The original comment was in answer to a question as to whether MORGANs had "Model Years." My answer was that for the Plus 4s (Series 1?) they did not. You cannot say that "My Morgan is a '19xx Model'
