Hi eddie, These engines (definitely 1098's anyway) have no rear main seal on the crankshaft. Oil is retained in the engine by utilising the vaccuum you're describing (as well as by a 'thread' on the

A series engines have a funky reverse cut spiral "oil slinger" instead of a seal. Any crankcase pressure forces oil out what they call the rear main seal. A metal thing with a spiral slot cut in it.
