This is a dumb question, but why the need for reserve auctions? Let's say you want a minimum of $3000, then why not just start the auction at a starting price of $3000 and go from there? Why all this

I suppose that getting 20 bids before you actually reach your minimum selling price might show potential bidders that there is interest in your car, rather than it sitting with no bids until the end.
