- Ok guys, help needed. 1974 Midget w/1098 smoker motor. It was rebuilt by the PO probably in the late 70s. It came in a 66 Sprite I bought years ago. No miles on engine to speak of, long time running,

- 1500 midgets use just the little "O" ring oil seals on he valve tems - but the excuse is of course its a Triumph! They do work, as they stop oil running down the valve stem, although they don't seat

- Take the head to a machine shop and have the valve guides replaced with VW valve guides with VW top hat seals. That is what is on my 948 head (same thing) and it works great. Mike MacLean Supercharge

- garage The problem may not be the seals. The factory didn't put any on the exhaust stems and as you mentioned the o-ring style on the intakes are pretty minimal. Try wiggling the valve stems north/s
