I just ordered a Thrush Muffler from Summit Racing Equipment for $16.95 (actually it was just over $25 with S&H) to replace the small resonator and the cross muffler on the back of my '79 Midget. The

I have read that sudden changes in diameter, even from small to big, are not a good idea in the exhaust pipe. It upsets the shockwaves :-) or something like that. But since you are doing this all th

Doesn't going from the correct size exhaust pipe into any size muffler effectively cause a large change in diameter ? What difference would an adapter at the muffler make? Mark Hanna AN5

Hi David, I understand that. My point is that even if the new muffler had a 1.5'' inlet tube, the inside of the muffler cavity would be greater than 1.5''. Hence there is an effective step up at the

You are correct... A wide spot in an exhaust pipe will change the density of the moving gas and cause it to slow and also cool when the main objective is to get the gas out ASAP and while its still

I made the same mistake thinking that it wouldn't matter because the muffler is waaaay out on the end... but as it turns out a muffler will cause less restriction the closer it is to the exhaust mani

For a race application that is what is often done. But for a street car, the right length of exhaust pipe adds torque. I read in a Mini magazine that even the reduced length of a center exit vs. a s
