My '66 Mk1A suddenly developed an engine miss and mechanical noise. The engine is a stock 260, which I rebuilt in '95 and has been driven approx. 10K miles since then. I drove my son to school, and

Your noise sounds like excessive lifter clearance. The following could cause it: 1. During that 8000 RPM "blowout" you went through, the lifter may have pumped up causing a valve to kiss the piston.
