You will need to take the cover off the back of the differential (after draining w/ the drain plug or it will drain all at once!) Once you're there, there will be a little clip-type thing at the diff

Thanks for all the replies. I finally got them out. The ford 8" doesn't have a rear cover. The 4 bolts on the outside bearing are what hold the axle in. Turns out the bearing housing was damaged, pin
