I've started bonding with the '59 TR3A I've taken over from Jeff Wilt and Bob Kramer. Yesterday, my son, Tom, and I took it out to Hallet for high speed touring as a prelude to the CVAR driving schoo

The solution to this problem used to be using the good old overdrive. Not viable any longer? Mike Cook I've started bonding with the '59 TR3A I've taken over from Jeff Wilt and Bob Kramer. Yesterday,

Bob tells me this engine is a fairly conservative race engine with 10.5:1 compression, stock rods and a stock nitrided crank. I've been using 6,000 as the redline based on what I've read here. Shoul

With a 10.5:1 comjpression ratio, you should change to a shorter duration cam! The engine will produce more power and will pull harder off of the corners. A cam with around 290 degress duration would

I've been outside or watching the 500 all day so I missed the posts earlier. Indeed the engine is as described. It was built with the idea that I would switch to a higher compression head, and add a

Rods seem to be the weak point. With stock rods I'd try to stay below 6000. If you switch to a shorter duration cam (whigh sounds likr a good idea with the kind of compression you've got) you'll pull

I never doubted that a TR3 motor will pull beyond 6K, I shift Peyote at 6800 in moments of limited mechanical sympathy (like when someone is trying to pass me), but it has a billet crank and Carillos
