Hello Nory, All Wheel Drive is ALWAYS engaged. a 4-Wheel drive usually has some kind of locking hubs, and/or a button, knob, or lever to disengage either the front or rear (usually the front) axle. -

I think Mike was right on but there's no point really arguing since different manufacturers slap the label on different systems. The real difference boils down to two things: 1) 4wd normally would be
