I always check the spark with a timing light and the plugs under compression. Compression makes it harder for the spark to jump the gap, the HT voltage rises, and it can rise above the breakdown poin

Are you certain the timing is correct? Turn the engine until #1 is at TDC on compression stroke (valves closed). The rotor should then be aimed at the location of the spark plug wire for #1. On most
