Put the car up on blocks a year ago to install an OD transmission and am just know getting it ready for the road. Only a few things left to do. (see my questions to the list on crankcase breather). N

Hi there, try to make your family understand never to back the car when they think the overdrive is still engaged. I know that's normally not possible due to the switch on the transmission, but I've

An O/D light should be fairly straightforward to install, and could be useful if "less MG experienced" drivers are to use the car. I wouldn't say it's needed (otherwise MG would have put one in there

Yes, which is why even after 15 years and still not remembering to switch the manual switch off when going down to 2nd or 1st, I devised a lockout circuit. This locks out the OD preventing it operati

I did precisely this; partly because a PO had left a spare hole in the dash, but also because I thought I might need a reminder to switch the OF off, not being accustomed to it. I may have a sketch o

Oh, that is different than what I was describing. My light just indicates whether the (driver-operated) switch is set to "on". Trivally simple, and just as effective, I would think -- under what circ

Max, mea culpa. I should have told that I'm subscribed to more than one list and mixed up the MG and the Healey overdrive. In Austin-Healeys the overdrive can remain activated with the driver operate

How about a relay in the backup light circuit which will disingage the OD regardless of the OD switch? Regards, Blake

Well, that may sound logical, but the backup light switch on the transmission is the exact same type of switch as the OD lockout switch (which "locks out" the OD in reverse, 1st, and 2nd, and 3rd in

It could even be argued that by combining the two in a circuit you would be doubling the chance of a failure. [unquote] Max, I agree on that but it makes sense though. It depends on in which state y

Except it isn't as simple as that - you will be depending on the reverse light switch *closing* to act as the fail-safe for the OD failing to *open*, and need a relay in addition to the two switches,
