A friend of ours just got his TR4a tranny and OD rebuilt. The rebuilder told him to run 30 wt oil in it instead of the gear oil all the books we have say to use. Dad put the typical 80 wt type stuff

There are a lot of conflicting publications out there. The A and J types has been used in many marques, including Volvo and A-H and both gear lube and motor oil have been specified at various times.
