Hi Daniel, The Morse Taper #2 as well as all other taper fits are machined for a slight interference fit. Put in the largest drill, run the drill press at a low rpm and drill some holes in soft steel

If the chuck and shaft are high quality, just put the chuck on the shaft and hit it a couple of times with a dead blow hammer. If the quality is not so high, it would be a good idea to lap the parts
