The plating process is electrolytic, things are plated by clipping them to a current source and then they attract a few microns of chrome. I am not sure how this can be applied to plastic, since it w

The process is actually two different processes. Some things are plated using a graphite base as a conductor. Other things are vacuum metallized and then coated for protection. This is the usual case

I used that stuff on my lug nuts. Looked decent actually, and quick to touch up if I scratch them badly. Probably would look very bad on an imperfect surface though. It is fairly shiny. -- Trevor Boi
