Speaking of expensive gas is there a reason why my 100/4 barely tops 20 mpg on the highway while my old TR4A with roughly the same weight and HP, using similar technology in carb and iginition system

Hmmmmmm. My '54 BN1 averages 27 mpg - 29 on longer highway trips. I use 91 octane - have an electronic ignition - 5 speed - 3:54 rear end and DW head. Speedo shows 70 mph @ 2800 rpm in 5th gear. Dav

Hello David The BJ8 I have averages 27 mpg at 70 mph on the highway using mid grade fuel 89 octane, 28 mpg at 70 mph using premium (91 octane) - not electronic ignition, 4 OD, and DW road/rally cam.
